When it comes to unique, made-to-order ice cream desserts, no other brand offers customers what Cold Stone does. Those characteristics compel customers to give Cold Stone a try, but once they taste our premium ice cream, they’re not interested that much in rolled ice cream anymore.” Cold Stone Creamery pioneered ice cream customization “We offer a couple of similarities to rolled ice cream: both are prepared on a frozen surface and can be customized to order with a variety of mix-ins. “Our franchisees are seeing an uptick in the requests for rolled ice cream in their stores,” says John Wuycheck, Senior Vice President of Franchise Development with Cold Stone Creamery. This unique style of ice cream is not pulled from frozen buckets by the scoop, instead its liquid base is poured onto a frozen pan and then chopped, mixed, spread and rolled right in front of you.” Pheng Vang, owner of two Thai rolled ice cream parlors, described the popular dessert on National Public Radio’s “The Splendid Table”: “Thai rolled ice cream - also known as stir-fried ice cream - is a global phenomenon. Once customers taste Cold Stone ice cream and discover the Ultimate Ice Cream Experience® we’re famous for, they forget their original quest and return to Cold Stone for more. As they hunt for the Thai street food dessert, however, they become Cold Stone fans instead. Rolled ice cream, a popular new dessert trend that’s becoming an American favorite, is bringing searching fans to Cold Stone Creamery® stores.

Popular and affordable (Friendly’s packaged ice creams are New England’s best-selling brand in grocery stores) they’re permanently linked to fond childhood memories for most former New England kids, including me. If you prefer to enjoy your ice cream at home, however, Friendly’s also offers take-home options, including cartons of ice cream, sundae cups, ice cream bars and cones, and novelty ice cream “ rolls” like the Jubilee Roll. Today, there are nearly 400 Friendly’s locations throughout the eastern United States, most of them in the Northeast. Whenever I meet someone that has never heard of Friendly’s, I describe it as being “like Howard Johnson’s was, only without the motels.” Casual dining (think burgers and melts) with an emphasis on friendly service, and always dessert. Founded in 1935 by the Blake Brothers of Springfield, Massachusetts, Friendly’s is a New England-based family dining restaurant chain that’s mostly known for its ice cream.
